Washington Post continues there comprehensive investigation, a reportage series called Oil Shock, about how increasing oil prices could affect the world. Their reporter Eric Weiss reports on the long-time U.S. government policies that have subsidized gas and highways and allowed suburbs across the country to flourish over decades, and how these policies could now dramatically shift in the future."Since the end of World War II, government policy has funded and encouraged the suburban lifestyle, subsidizing highways while starving mass transit and keeping gas taxes much lower than in some other countries.
