We all know that the oil supply is changing so easy reserves are nearly exhausted. This
leads to high oil prices and the security of supply of fossil fuels. All of this will have a
tremendous impact on many sectors of our society.

Rather than perceiving this as a threat to our way of life, a transition to a less
oil-dependent society will also offer visionary people and industries many new (commercial)
opportunities to benefit from this changing playing field.

At 'The Permanent Oil Crisis: Challlenges and Opportunities', many experts from the field
will share their vision, and indicate where opportunities exist for the European business world.

We look forward to welcoming you to Amsterdam on 21 and 22 January 2009!

Energy Controversies - a new University of Aberdeen lecture series which aims to tackle the key challenges and raise debate on the main issues facing the energy sector now and in the future. ASPO President Kjell Aleklett will give a lecture at the University of Aberdeen. The lecture is called "Global Energy Resources – The Peak Oil View" on 5 March 2009. The lecture will also be made available online.

Spearheaded by Professor Ben Kneller from the University’s Department of Geology & Petroleum Geology, the series has been created with the intention of raising public awareness and stimulating discussion on a variety of inter-related, often contentious issues surrounding global energy use.

The series consists of seven public lectures and a discussion panel event, bringing together leading figures from the oil and gas industry alongside academics and experts from all areas of the energy sector. The lectures will take place in King’s College Conference Centre.

It promotes an intergenerational dialogue between today’s experts and future leaders. By bringing together leading figures in academia, politics, the public sector and business with a selection of outstanding students, we hope that one generation may teach and engage with the next one. The emphasis is on fostering critical awareness amongst students, enabling leaders of tomorrow to better address issues crucial to our future.

The conference takes place for its second time from 1 – 3 May 2009.

The topic is: Oil – Challenges and Opportunities.
