Former Iraqi oil minister Dr Issam Al-Chalabi will be visiting Uppsala University and take part in an workshop on future Iraqi oil production. Al-Chalabi were the oil minister in Saddam Husseins government (march 1987 to october 1990) and represented Iraq in OPEC. He resigned in protest against the invasion of Kuwait and is now working as an consultat in global energy questions, specialized on oil and gas production in the Middle East. The oil reserves of Iraq is the third largest in the world and the last undeveloped region in the Middle East. The future development of Iraqs oil reserves is of great importance to both the country and to the world.
